Brendan was diagnosed with Syngap1 in 2017 at the age of 32. He was diagnosed with epilepsy at 3 years old. Brendan suffers from tonic clonic, focal, and absence seizures. His seizures were best controlled with Epilim, unfortunately 4 years ago he developed ammonia toxicity from the medication. Once Epilim was removed, seizures increased and so did hospital visits. He often wakes in the middle of the night due to seizure activity.

Brendan lived at home for 31 years. 4 years ago, he was placed into a residential facility. He has behavioral issues that require medication such as: Aripiprazole and Mitrazipine to keep under control.

Brendan enjoys coming home on the weekend to visit his family. His favorite thing to do is to go train spotting, he can spend a few hours a day viewing his favorite trains and visiting train stations. We are working on Brendan being able to revisit activities that he once enjoyed before his health declined - such as swimming and horse riding. Brendan enjoys watching his favorite shows: Trains, Wheel of Fortune, Addams Family, and The Flinstones. He has a great sense of humor and is a great guy to be around. We love our warrior!
